ZUMU’s second site was established in Arad, a city near the Dead Sea that once had a promising tourism economy and a young workforce, but today suffers from lack of industry. In a symbolic move, we established the museum on the site of an abandoned textile factory whose move from Arad devastated the local economy. We built the site with used materials from the local factory. During our time in Arad, we received over 9,500 visitors, including 4,000 children. We also saw groups coming from neighbouring communities, as well as visitors from around the country, who stayed in local hotels and ate at local restaurants, giving a boost to local businesses.
